"I learned that Joshua Pollack, owner of Rosenberg’s Bagels and Famous Original J’s Pizza, has opened a new deli in the Cole neighborhood serving subs to go; Lou’s Italian Specialties held its grand opening on Tuesday, December 18 and is now open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday at 3357 North Downing Street. There’s no space inside the little corner shop to sit, but customers can order chicken parm or Italian beef sandwiches to go while browsing cheese wheels and tasting fresh slices of prosciutto. Lou’s specializes in hot and cold subs (also called hoagies or grinders), including the Louie—made with Genoa salami, capicola, provolone, and ham—topped with fixings from shredded lettuce to oil and vinegar; market sides include broccoli rabe and pasta salad. To drink, the shop carries the full San Pellegrino lineup, and desserts start with a selection of hand-filled cannoli. Pollack recruited two longtime Jersey friends, Nick Severino and Jason Somers, to lead the kitchen and help oversee the growing Bridge & Tunnel restaurant group, and the team jokes about “New Yorking” Colorado while keeping prices mostly closer to old Denver than New York City." - Josie Sexton
