"Aiming to be a true neighborhood hang rather than a special-occasion Italian spot, this Italian-ish collaboration opens at 1117 King Street with a menu that swings from a Detroit-plus-Sicilian slice and a $5 beer after work to a dressed-up night of shared pastas and espresso martinis. Dishes include a potato chip salad with fermented chili vinaigrette, a fennel salad rice bowl, mortadella tortellini, collard green fusilli with smoked ham jus, rigatoni alla vodka, chicken Milanese with Caesar salad, and cheeky “Ikea” meatballs, while the bar mixes a dirty martini finished with Calabrian chili, a cherry Negroni, and a yuzu margarita. The midcentury-modern room puts the bar at the center, serves the full menu, and plays hip hop and jazz, with artwork from local artist Jeremy Croft; neighbors have already cheered from the sidewalk when the neon sign first lit up. It’s a partnership between co-owner Megan Hill, bar director Joey Goetz, chefs Mason Morton and James Ostop, and partner Hank Weed. Dinner runs 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., the bar goes until midnight, reservations are on Resy, it opens Saturday, December 20, and the name honors Goetz’s mother." - Erin Perkins
