"I learned that Nolita Hall, a Little Italy restaurant, temporarily closed on June 14 and was originally scheduled to resume operations today but has postponed reopening after a member of its staff tested positive for COVID-19. In an Instagram post the eatery shared a letter from owner Douglas Hamm saying no other employees have tested positive so far and that "we have come to the decision to stay closed for a few weeks beyond June 30" because of the continuing increase in positive tests county- and nationwide; Hamm called the choice short-term "gut wrenching" but necessary for the health and safety of staff and guests. He says most of his staff agreed with the decision, notes that his main business is real estate (he owns Nolita’s India Street property) so he isn't under pressure from many outside investors, and that he will keep monitoring COVID-19 metrics and public sentiment to determine a new reopening date, hoping to be back in business by late July." - Candice Woo
