"I dropped by an inviting Uruguayan bistro in Bushwick and sat outside, where I had the chorizo ($12) served on a round, homemade-tasting bun split so both inside and outside were charred and almost crunchy; it was presented on a chopping block with a sharp knife and smeared with a magnificent relish tasting of raw onion and fresh oregano alongside tomato and lettuce, which gave the sandwich just the right oomph. The dining room inside was deep and dark and decorated with Montevideo souvenirs—antique kitchen utensils, family portraits, coats of arms and battered license plates—befitting a country cottage; sitting outside provided a view of the Boar’s Head factory with razor wire-topped fences, and my friendly waiter wore a Napalm Death T-shirt. I also gobbled a toast smeared with crumbly blood sausage topped by a runny, paprika-dusted egg and an undressed salad; note the chorizo is on the brunch menu, not the dinner menu." - Robert Sietsema
