"I added a new entry to Philadelphia’s boutique wine scene with Vernick Wine, Greg Vernick’s shop at 2029 Walnut Street next door to Vernick Food & Drink; it was up and running as of Wednesday, November 13 and functions as a retail shop that doubles as a private event space. We’re going for a very boutique, well-curated shop with unique bottles not available at the state stores, leaning Old World and French-heavy while not subscribing to strict rules; expect natural wines, orange wines, Old World styles, and an emphasis on small-production wineries across a list of more than 100 bottles overseen by Vernick Food & Drink wine director Ray Gazdzinski. Set in an 1840 Rittenhouse brownstone, the space has an antique look—crown molding, plaster ceilings, and chandeliers—and the team can customize menus for private dinners or cocktail parties with chef de cuisine Robert Newcomb and pastry chef Michael O’Lone, accommodating up to 32 for a seated dinner." - Rachel Vigoda
