The Mission District’s Beauty Bar Has Closed | Eater SF

"On the corner of 19th and Mission, I learned that Beauty Bar has closed after more than two decades; managing owner Aaron Buhrz informed staff by text and former general manager Matt Stout confirmed to the Chronicle that the shutdown was due to "unsustainable, increasingly slowing" revenue. When it opened in 1999 as part of a chain with New York and Los Angeles locations, it attracted customers with sparkly, pink, retro-inspired decor and offered $10 martinis and manicures; these days it can accurately be described as a dive, often bustling with revelers on weekend nights, and in recent years it made headlines for a 2016 abduction of a woman leaving the bar and a 2019 incident in which gang members executed a man after he left the bar." - Lauren Saria
