"Starbucks was dealt a loss by the National Labor Relations Board when it was ruled that the coffee titan broke the law in dealing with Seattle’s first unionized Starbucks, located on Broadway and Denny in Capitol Hill. Complaints against Starbucks by the union have become common, with allegations of closing unionized stores and firing employees due to union activities. The Capitol Hill store was accused of preventing workers from engaging in union activities during paid breaks and forcing a barista to find shift coverage while testifying before the NLRB. Despite these challenges, the union at the Capitol Hill location successfully bargained a contract, though Starbucks closed the store citing 'safety' reasons. Recently, the NLRB ruled that Starbucks must inform former employees of their rights to unionize." - Harry Cheadle
