"On the third floor of Greektown Casino-Hotel, I saw Monroe Market, an 11,000-square-foot, food-hall–style dining space that opened May 1 after a $15 million renovation replacing the former Market District. The space, designed by Rossetti Associates, houses six fast-casual counters, communal seating, themed food stalls, and a 280-square-foot living wall with a video screen; unlike a traditional food hall, each of the restaurants was developed and will be operated by casino staff rather than leased to outside vendors. Ordering is handled primarily via touch-screen kiosks and a mobile app that even lets gamblers use casino meal comps at the electronic kiosks, and patrons can expect everything from fried chicken to gelato and barbecue brisket." - Brenna Houck
