"At 30 years old, this brewery — pronounced as one word, “macnjax,” when ordering its flagship African Amber — was recently sold to Ackley Brands; the price wasn’t disclosed. I learned co-owners Mac Rankin and Jack Schropp approached the buyer because they wanted more management structure and financial flexibility in case a zoning change forces them to move. Not much is likely to change for drinkers: Rankin and Schropp will stay on for the next year to help with the transition, and Ackley intends to keep the brewery’s 25 employees.
