"Planned as a 12-room, four-story development on the site currently occupied by Bite Me Sandwiches, Hotel Castro will include a rooftop deck and an 1,800-square-foot ground-floor restaurant designed by architecture firm Cass Calder Smith; permits were approved by the SF Planning Commission earlier this month. The property owner, Gannon Tidwell, argued the lack of hotel options in the neighborhood justified the change of use, calling the Castro a “world-class travel destination” deserving of its own hotel, and renderings show a very different, modern aesthetic for the new building. There’s no word yet on the restaurant’s concept, and the project will face steep competition from the recent boom of high-profile hotel dining in the city." - Ellen Fort
