"A wonderland of Chinese snacks has opened in Kearny Mesa’s Convoy Pointe Plaza Shopping Center on Convoy Street; Pacific Coast Commercial helped owner Serena Wang secure a spot next to Bonchon Chicken. Wang, who’s lived in San Diego for several years, tells Eater that she was inspired to open the shop after missing the snack shops she used to frequent in her hometown of Dalian, China. Though it shares the same name as a mega-chain known throughout Asia, it’s not affiliated, and it is connected to a similar spot called Jue Wei Kitchen in LA County’s San Gabriel Valley. Displayed in refrigerated cases at the counter-service establishment, the offerings include duck heads, necks, gizzards, wings, and other duck parts that have been braised and seasoned with a mala spice featuring numbing-hot Sichuan peppercorns. The extensive menu ranges from pig ears and pork stomach to sliced lotus root, kelp knots, and quail eggs, with skewers of chicken tenders, beef, and sausage available in flavorings including five-spice, extra spicy, and sour and sweet. Other snacks include fried eggplant, stinky tofu in a chili sauce, and crispy squid. Although there are a few tables in the space, the shop is mostly geared toward takeout business, with much of the menu also available for delivery via the Hungry Panda app." - Candice Woo
