"I found that the Sylvan Thirty outpost of Juiceland in West Dallas was forced to close for one week during a worker strike and is set to reopen Tuesday, May 25. Staffers, via an Instagram account created by the strikers, said they walked off after a year of “unsanitary, rough working conditions” and a lack of COVID-19 hazard pay, and they have alleged systemic racism and sexual harassment. The United Front of Juice Crews says Juiceland has been hiring replacement workers (“scabs”) after HR meetings that staffers say went in circles and failed to address their grievances. In response, Juiceland issued an open letter pledging to raise wages to $15 per hour for tipped employees and $17 per hour for back-of-house staff, to partner with a third party to collect and investigate past and current incidents, to provide improved diversity training for managers, and to improve communications — measures the strikers say are likely insufficient. A GoFundMe for striking workers has raised more than $13,000 of a $15,000 goal." - Amy McCarthy
