"I learned that after launching in 2017 in Miramar’s Miralani Makers District—where it originally shared space with a cidery and kitchen—the meadery has moved into a dedicated 3,000-square-foot facility in the Morena area near the I-8/I-5 intersection; the Miramar location is now a satellite tasting room while the new site houses all production and barrel storage and offers plenty of outdoor seating across a front and back patio shared with neighbor Deft Brewing. I found it’s currently open Thursday through Saturday and features a permanent wood-fired oven run by mobile caterer Cucina Caprese that cooks Neapolitan pizzas. Co-founder Billy Beltz, who has won several awards for his mead, told Eater that he shifted production during the pandemic to focus on meads that take well to aging rather than draft styles, and among the newest releases are two meads highlighting Western honey varieties, including one aged in Seven Caves rum barrels. With recent permission to expand into sidewalks and parking lots, the meadery plans to use an adjacent parking lot for overflow seating on weekends and for future events like outdoor movie nights." - Candice Woo
