"I'm glad to see a familiar local vegan ice cream producer opening a Fenway location at 140 Brookline Ave., across from the movie theater: Fomu, founded in 2012 by Deena Jalal, is best known for its vegan ice creams, frappes, and other sweet treats and will open Friday, March 22. Its ice creams are free of egg, dairy, and other animal-derived products; most flavors start with a coconut base while some use cashews, almonds, or fruit, and it offers both standard and seasonal flavors such as vanilla bean, salted caramel, and chocolate pudding. The Fenway café will sell ice cream along with smoothies, frappes, baked goods, ice cream cakes, and to-go pints, joining Fomu’s other locations in Allston, Jamaica Plain, and the South End, and sits between Starbucks and West Elm on Brookline Avenue near the site of a previous long-term Fomu pop-up." - Dana Hatic
