"When it opens in early 2025 in St. Paul’s Rondo neighborhood, Bubble Line Brewing Company is planned to be Minnesota’s first Black woman-owned brewery. Founder and head brewer Brittney Mikell — a University of Minnesota School of Pharmacy graduate who started homebrewing during the pandemic and named the brewery after a chemistry term she learned at Carleton College — is crowdfunding the launch and is nearly halfway to a $20,000 friends-and-family goal. Her vision blends standard styles with proprietary flair: lagers and IPAs alongside a Honeycrisp apple blonde ale (a Minnesota homage that accents sweet, juicy apple notes over the blonde’s gentle maltiness), espresso drinks, and a hoppy, nonalcoholic ghost pepper lemonade, with THC drinks under consideration. Beyond beer, she plans kid-friendly spaces, apprenticeships for brewers of color, a home-brew library corner, community events (and even a three-on-three basketball tournament if space allows), living wages for staff, and environmental sustainability; she already has a team and an architect and is searching for a Rondo building while preparing a larger PR push." - Justine Jones
