"Ray Garcia’s return to the Los Angeles dining scene with his landmark modern Mexican restaurant Broken Spanish felt like the ideal kind of revival at a time when the dining scene has dealt with one of its most difficult years in recent memory. Yes, the iconic chicharron is back but the casual menu has plenty of other stars, like a dreamy plate of chicken enchiladas dressed with pale green tomatillo salsa, homemade crema, and salty crumbled feta. This is an extremely well-balanced preparation: nothing too heavy or cheesy, with the aromatics of soften leeks and gentle chicken adding to the levity of the tomatillo salsa. Inspired by Garcia’s mom’s preparation, it lands on the table like a warm hug. Other dishes at Broken Spanish, such as the roasted mushroom tamal and incredible Caesar salad, also warrant return visits. Culver City is truly blessed to have this newest installment of Garcia’s beloved restaurant." - Eater Staff
