"After 77 years in business, I learned that the iconic Jewish bakery on Fairfax Avenue closed permanently on December 3; Douglas Weinstein called the decision “painful,” noting the bakery had been losing money every day due to insufficient retail, online, and delivery sales and that the cost of maintaining its aging facility and equipment — including failing water pipes — was insurmountable. To keep the brand alive, Weinstein arranged a partnership with Bread Los Angeles so production can continue, and the bakery’s loaves of corn rye, seeded rye, seedless rye, and pumpernickel will remain available through other retailers." - Cathy Chaplin
