"I'm excited that Brown Bag Seafood Company will open its fifth location early next year on the west bank of the Chicago River at 150 North Riverside in the bright, new West Loop skyscraper. The fast-casual spot serves sustainable seafood as grain bowls, salads, tacos, and sandwiches, positioning itself as a healthier alternative to new neighbor Small Cheval. After opening a shiny River North restaurant with high ceilings and a stall inside Revival Food Hall, owner Donna Lee collaborated with pastry chef Mindy Segal to add a cocoa Krispie brownie bite that will sell at all Brown Bag locations. The menu is expanding to include seared yellowfin tuna, a “Veggie Detox Crunch” taco made with ground raw vegetables including edamame and sunflower seeds with a vinaigrette, and a spicy cauliflower with jalapeños, and customers can now stuff tacos and sandwiches with any protein (previously only crispy cod and grilled fish tacos were offered to speed service). Brown Bag Riverside will seat about 30 inside a 2,000-square-foot space, won't have a liquor license, and Lee hopes customers will brown-bag it and eat lunches riverside; the chain has been around since 2014 and she hopes to open more locations in Chicago and along the East Coast." - Ashok Selvam
