"Dorchester’s Coco Leaf, a cafe specializing in bubble tea and Vietnamese-inspired desserts, just expanded to Boston’s Back Bay, taking over the space at 303 Newbury St. where Barrington Coffee Roasters operated until April of this year. The new location grandly opened on Friday, June 7, though it’s not yet serving Coco Leaf’s signature che, a soup-like Vietnamese dessert that combines tapioca (or boba) with ingredients like coconut and chia seeds, avocado, pandan jelly, and red bean. The che will be available in a couple weeks, with a post on Instagram indicating the delay is for training purposes. Until then, Coco Leaf’s spacious Newbury Street location is serving a variety of bubble teas and smoothies, as well as treats such as macarons, cakes, and more. Coco Leaf first opened in Dorchester (1480 Dorchester Ave., Boston) in early 2017, the work of chef Pete Om (an alum of O Ya and Spain’s acclaimed El Celler de Can Roca) and partner Eric Ly. Both Coco Leaf locations operate seven days a week, from morning to night." - Dana Hatic
