"A South Korea–based malatang restaurant, Sorimmara opened its first Koreatown location on September 6 in a busy plaza at the intersection of Sixth and Alexandria across from Chapman Market. I note that the chain already has more than 200 locations across Korea and a few U.S. outposts (including Buena Park and Manhattan). Malatang—originally from Sichuan and translating to “numb spicy hot pot”—is the focus here, and guests can build their own bowls at a salad-bar setup with options like beef, ramen noodles, fish balls, tofu, and greens; bowls are priced by the pound and there’s also an option to build your own sauce. In addition to the hot pot, Sorimmara serves mala xiang guo (meat and vegetables stir-fried with mala), classic tteokbokki, and the viral creamy rose tteokbokki." - Rebecca Roland
