"After a seven-year hiatus, Chin’s Szechwan has returned to Carlsbad Village — the Chinese restaurant had been a fixture since the mid-1980s before shuttering in 2013 — and now joins a small North County mini-empire with locations in Encinitas, Oceanside, Vista, and Rancho Bernardo. I note it takes over the space from Overseas Restaurant and has completely remodeled the dining room with a sleek, traditional makeover, though because of the new stay-at-home order it will begin by offering takeout and delivery daily from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Its menu balances retro Americanized items like egg foo young and pu pu platters with a large selection of Szechwan specialties — mala chicken, mapo doufu, spicy garlic eggplant — plus dishes from Hunan and lesser-seen plates such as pao hu (sliced pork braised with crushed peanuts in a spicy sauce); management says they’re open to expanding but are taking it one location at a time." - Candice Woo
