"I'm glad to see a longtime Lower Pac Heights favorite back in operation: Gourmet Carousel reopened on April 10th after the original owners, BoHing and Sai Ko, retired and briefly sold the restaurant in July 2022. The Kos ran the corner spot at Franklin and Pine for 38 years—BoHing worked as the chef for most of that time before handing the recipes and reins to chef Peter Yu—and siblings Chew Ko, Pei Yok Ko, and Yin Ko reunited to resurrect their parents' restaurant, even bringing Yu out of retirement; Yin says they returned after their mother passed two years ago. The restaurant, which endured a past fire and earned a two-and-a-half-star review from Michael Bauer in 1994 for its inexpensive prix fixe family menu, a crab dish cooked in a clay pot with glass noodles, and plump pot stickers, has restored its full menu (including those pot stickers and the deluxe won ton soup), updated the interior, and is welcoming customers again." - Dianne de Guzman
