"I visited the new fast-casual Old Xi’an Delicacy at 164 Pearl St., between Pine and Wall Streets in the Financial District; owner Steven Lam opened it last week and it has already drawn a crowd, with lines forming at lunchtime on Friday. The menu focuses on hand-ripped noodles (available dry or in soup) — four kinds are offered: stewed pork, spicy beef, a vegetable option, and spicy cumin lamb — and is divided into appetizers, hand-ripped noodles, burgers (including a spicy cumin lamb burger and a stewed pork burger), cold noodles, and dumplings (steamed pork dumplings are $7). Noodle dishes run about $12, burgers from $5.50 to $7, and drinks include herbal tea, soy milk, soda, and plum juice. Lam, who used to work downtown, wanted to bring traditional, specifically "hot and spicy," Chinese food to a neighborhood dominated by counter-service sandwiches and salads; the menu is described as flexible and will change in the coming weeks based on customer feedback. The spot is reminiscent of Xi’an Famous Foods (though unrelated) and is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from noon to 10 p.m." - Carla Vianna
