Minneapolis’ Loon Cafe Expanding to Downtown Saint Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"A downtown Minneapolis favorite for chili and a beer, the Loon Cafe will expand to a second, 160-seat restaurant in downtown Saint Paul, opening inside the former Great Waters Brewing Company location on St. Peter Street and West 7th Place. Owner Tim Mahoney says the new spot won’t be a duplicate of the 37-year-old Minneapolis restaurant; Chef Brian Turner, who worked for years at the Minneapolis location before briefly moving to San Diego, will lead the kitchen, and Jim Smart Architects will handle the remodel. Opened in 1982 at the edge of the Warehouse District, the Loon Cafe’s historic room and bar have long been a favorite stop for lunch, happy hour and a snack before and after events at Target Center, with menu staples including chili, sandwiches, salads, tacos and bar snacks." - Joy Summers
