"Positioned as a would-be Domino’s of Chinese food, the owner of Lazy Susan, Hanson Li, rolled out a 10 percent-off-everything deal in September after noticing other San Francisco restaurants were raising menu prices; inspired by McDonald’s $1 menu and drawing on experience from his first restaurant group behind Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream, Li hoped higher sales would offset the discount. He reports the tactic has paid off so far, with average checks up about 10 percent and foot traffic up about 15 percent as people buy extras like an extra fried rice, and the discount will run at least through Thanksgiving." - Paolo Bicchieri
