"An iconic Midtown nightclub that hosted performers such as Harry Belafonte, the Supremes, Carmen Miranda, and Sammy Davis Jr., and frequently featured Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis during its roughly 80-year run, the Copacabana has permanently closed; a staffer told Eater, 'We closed due to COVID,' and said the club plans to reopen in a different location next year but declined to say where. Opened in 1940 on East 60th Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues and having changed venues four times, it moved to its then-current corner of Eighth Avenue and West 47th Street in the summer of 2011. Popularized by the 1947 film Copacabana starring Groucho Marx and Carmen Miranda and immortalized in the Barry Manilow song, the club also served as a setting for films including Goodfellas, Raging Bull, and Tootsie; although it drew less star power in later years, its continued presence in Midtown was a constant reminder of its storied past. The venue is described as a 25,000-square-foot entertainment destination with three floors, including a banquet hall." - Tanay Warerkar
