"I learned that Carmelo’s Cucina Italiana will remain shuttered until late spring for major renovations now that Ben Berg is heading up the longstanding eatery with his brother Daniel Berg as chef. The restaurant closed last week for a months-long revamp that will add an outdoor patio, a horseshoe-shaped bar, and a completely new interior look, according to CultureMap, and there’s talk of menu changes though no new dishes have been announced. Berg took over Carmelo’s Ristorante a little over a year ago from longtime owner Carmelo Mauro, who had planned to close it after 37 years; the transition kept the staff in their current positions, and Mauro said, “I wholeheartedly trust [Berg] to honor and respect the Carmelo’s name and only improve it in the years to come.” I’ll stay tuned for the reopening date and the other “exciting new developments” diners can expect." - Alaena Hostetter
