"Recognized by the Michelin Guide for its dim sum, this Cantonese restaurant permanently closed on December 31 after the owner decided to retire and the lease was set to expire; former manager Albert Yau said the owners chose not to renew and the landlord plans to rent out the space after a remodel. Opened originally as the Mayflower Restaurant, it was a destination partly because of its impressive 550-person capacity and Michelin recognition, and the Guide noted the service as a high watermark for the Bay—staff described as “machine-like” in their efficacy and speed. The business’ official lifespan is disputed: the restaurant’s website says it had been open 20 years while KTSF26 reports some counts put it at more than three decades." - Paolo Bicchieri
