Suasday Cambodian Sandwich Shop Opens in Boston’s North End June 2022 | Eater Boston

"Arriving in Boston’s North End on June 10, Suasday is a tiny Cambodian sandwich shop in the former Cobblestone Cafe space at 227 Hanover St. I learned the name comes from the Khmer greeting meaning "hello" or "welcome," and the restaurant explores the Cambodian American heritage of cousins Jessica Chiep and Menghong Hak with co-owner and chef Ronald Liu. The 300-square-foot counter-service, grab-and-go spot is lined with Cambodian textiles, stenciling and family art, woven light fixtures, wood accents, and a plant wall. The menu centers on toasted num pang baguettes stuffed with fillings such as a kroeung beef curry—made from fresh turmeric, lemongrass, and galangal ground into a paste, braised eight hours with beef brisket and coconut milk, then shredded and paired with house-made pâté, butter aioli, and pickled green papaya, daikon, carrots, cucumber, and cilantro—which Liu says is his favorite sandwich; all sauces and pickled vegetables are produced in-house. Other offerings nod to the North End with an Italia Twist (prosciutto, mortadella, black forest ham, provolone, aioli, pâté, and the same pickled vegetables), a crawfish-salad sandwich riffing on a New England lobster roll, salads, a calamansi limeade, a 16-hour Cambodian cold brew coffee, and pandan desserts such as pandan rice cake, pandan mousse, and pandan custard.
