"Serving diners since 1921 in downtown Stinson Beach, the Sand Dollar has long drawn Marin County residents and visitors with Tomales Bay oysters, Dungeness crab cioppino, and an expansive patio that — especially on warm days — is packed from opening to last call; I note that the patio was empty after an 8:42 a.m. Tuesday explosion at the neighboring Oceanic Realty office damaged several businesses. Purchased in 2000 by brothers Sam and August Temer, the restaurant sits in a building reportedly made from three barges that sailed up to Stinson Beach and were fused together. Former SF Chronicle food critic Michael Bauer wrote that on a recent visit he had "some of the best oysters I remember," calling the Marin Miyaga oysters briny and sweet, and Sam Temer has said the Sand Dollar "is to Stinson, what Tadich Grill is to San Francisco," with "locals, politicians and famous athletes among [his] loyal clientele." Efforts to determine the Sand Dollar's fate were unsuccessful at the time of reporting: its website appeared hacked, its longstanding phone went unanswered, and attempts to reach the Temers failed." - Eve Batey
