"Born in an East Hollywood parking lot as a modest pop-up in early 2017 by chef Dave Kopushyan and his three best friends, this overnight success quickly grew into brick-and-mortar locations (three in Los Angeles) and is now franchising nationwide with over 100 locations under contract and celebrity backers like Samuel L. Jackson, Maria Shriver, and Michael Strahan. The Pacific Beach outpost at the corner of Garnet Avenue and Cass Street is slated to grand open on May 29; it will occupy 2,000 square feet, open 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Monday–Thursday and until midnight Friday–Sunday, and will start as takeout-only with delivery via Postmates, DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub. The concept focuses on a honed-in menu of chicken tenders and sliders offered in seven spice levels from No Heat to Reaper (the Reaper requires a signed waiver), and local franchisees Lawrence Joseph Kourie and Andrew Feghali—who plan to open 12 locations in San Diego—call Dave’s the “gold standard” among Nashville-style hot chicken for its unique store design and streamlined menu." - Candice Woo
