"I'm reporting that Toast Gastrobrunch, opening at the end of January in Carlsbad in the space that recently housed a branch of Pisco Rotisserie & Cevicheria (and had previously replaced an outlet of Sammy’s Wood Fired Pizza), will be a new daytime eatery run by executive chef/partner Alfred “Alfie” Szeprethy. The menu will focus on a variety of toasts alongside brunch plates such as smoked brisket hash, breakfast salads, and his signature Eggs in Purgatory — poached eggs in a spicy shashuska sauce with mushrooms, bacon, feta, scallions, and mint served in a sourdough bread bowl. A full bar supports an array of breakfast cocktails from classics like Bloody Marys, sangrias, and micheladas to specialty drinks including the Boozey Start (coffee, brandy, Grand Marnier and Kahlua topped with whipped cream and orange peel) and the Lavender Lady (a lavender cordial made with lime juice, champagne and lavender bitters)." - Candice Woo
