The 38 Best Restaurants in Tokyo, Japan | Eater

"In Juzo Itami’s movie Tampopo, there’s a scene in which a cook surreptitiously makes omurice, a soft omelet over ketchup-stained rice, for Tampopo’s son Tabo. Diners can experience the version of the dish that was specifically developed for the movie at Taimeiken in the historic Nihonbashi district, a short walk from Tokyo Station. The third-generation chef, Hiroshi Modegi, now helms the kitchen at this iconic restaurant, which also serves other kinds of yoshoku (Western dishes adapted to the Japanese palate) like katsu. The first floor is walk-in only and quite popular, while the second floor is more formal and takes reservations. Must-try dish: At lunchtime on the first floor, order the small portions of borscht soup and coleslaw for only 100 yen each." - Yukari Sakamoto
