"I'm excited that Long Beach is getting its own location of Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, a Memphis export that trades in a style of Southern spicy chicken that differs from Nashville pretty dramatically in both finished product and overall heat levels. The brand has already elbowed its way into the Los Angeles market with locations on Crenshaw (the first in greater L.A.) and in Burbank, and it's drawing legions of fans — even Jonathan Gold raves about the place — for its fried bird, sides, and pies. The new Long Beach spot sits inside a shopping plaza at 2580 Long Beach Boulevard with room for about 50 diners, plus takeout and catering; the team has secured a license to serve beer and wine. It opened for limited hours as of yesterday and should expand into more regular lunch and dinner service down the line." - Farley Elliott
