"An Old Montreal culinary mainstay seems to be in a state of flux: Les 400 Coups closed its doors rather suddenly with little explanation. La Presse reports the owners have filed for bankruptcy according to Quebec’s business register, but there are two business listings at the restaurant’s address — one under long-time owner Jorge Da Silva Sr. that states the restaurant has entered bankruptcy and another under Larisa Baintan that states it has not — and neither listing has changed since the place was put on the market. A sign on the restaurant advertises the fully equipped space for sale, and Sutton Quebec listed the restaurant with a realtor. The restaurant posted to Google in mid‑May that it was closed “for an indeterminate duration” due to an equipment breakage, but there have also been rumblings of staffing trouble: chef Jason Nelsons was seen publishing job postings for multiple servers as well as a line cook and garde‑manger, and there are other active ads looking for cooks and managers. Email and phone calls have gone unanswered while the voicemail still lists regular opening hours; OpenTable still shows reservations (including a one‑star complaint from a diner who arrived to find a note saying the restaurant was closed for “electrical problems”); there’s no mention of the closure on Twitter and the Facebook page appears deactivated. The high‑end kitchen has experienced two chef shuffles in two years — Jonathan Rassi came in and left, with Nelsons replacing him last summer — and although it appeared Da Silva was trying to divest multiple Old Montreal restaurants, Quebec’s register still lists him as owner, so the situation remains unclear." - Tim Forster
