"At 1235 San Pablo Ave (between Gilman and Harrison), I learned this Berkeley institution for homestyle breakfast and brunch operated for more than 25 years under chef Jimmy Carter — who came from Scotland to attend UC Berkeley — and front-of-house partner Carolyn Del Gaudio Carter, who are retiring and have sold the business. Meal Ticket opened in 1990 in South Berkeley and moved to San Pablo Ave in 2001; it is currently closed for a “spring cleaning” and will not reopen. Regulars will miss signature items like the curry pork and the scrambles, and in their parting letter the Carters thanked loyal customers and expressed hope that the incoming restaurant will continue to bring character to the neighborhood." - Caleb Pershan
