"I'm reporting that CoCo Ichibanya, Japan's most beloved curry chain with more than 1,400 locations worldwide, was due to open next month in Kearny Mesa's Convoy Street center (which also houses Hive and Chinese eatery Kangxi Is Coming), but the company says the opening has been delayed until mid-summer. Established in 1978 in Japan and expanded to the U.S. in 2011, this San Diego outpost will be the brand's first location outside the Los Angeles area. I note that CoCo Ichibanya specializes in kare raisu (curry rice), offering fully customizable plates based on rice portion size, curry sauce spice level, and toppings that range from chicken cutlet and sausages to fried squid and vegetable croquettes." - Candice Woo
