"Debuting on August 8 as a new restaurant and lounge from Thomas Fuks, I found Puzzle occupies the former About Last Night space on the Sunset Strip and aims for a ravishing ambience — think Amour’s Parisian-saloon look but with more gilded accents and green curtains — paired with bottle service, cocktails, wine, and late-night DJs. Chef Kevin Dray, whom Fuks met at Burning Man, runs a French-inspired lounge menu featuring scallop carpaccio with passion fruit and grapefruit, cured Ora King salmon with tarragon vinaigrette, and Snake River Farms wagyu filet mignon with bordelaise; Dray favors the priciest ingredients, so the Catch of the Day might be tuna flown in from Japan. Extravagant touches include the option to top a baked potato with 30 grams of Ossetra or get a $40 “caviar bump” on your hand (served with a chilled shot of vodka). The launch followed a messy split with former partner Damon Lawner, who was bought out by Fuks, and while Fuks hoped for bustling nightlife until 2 a.m., crowds often thin well before last call; Puzzle now opens at 7 p.m. Tuesday–Saturday, takes reservations on SevenRooms, no longer requires membership but enforces a dress code, and is located at 8947 Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA 90069." - Matthew Kang
