"Scheduled to open at the end of July at 2138 N. Halsted Street, I expect Medi to be a 2,000-square-foot Lincoln Park restaurant from the father-and-son team behind Kan Zaman with Chef Hermiz Younan running the kitchen; the menu will lean toward traditional, home-style Lebanese small and medium shared plates while integrating Armenian and Greek influences. Highlights the owners plan to showcase include kibbeh nayeh, hot and cold mezze such as baba ghannouj and tabbouleh, soujouk in red sauce, a variety of kebobs, beef and chicken shawarma, and lamb chops. Bartender and consultant James Urycki helped develop a seasonal cocktail program that will begin with summer-friendly drinks like a cold-brew Old Fashioned and the “Lasanta 12-Year Cobbler” (Olosoro and Pedro Ximénez sherries, blood orange juice, pineapple juice); there will also be a rotating selection of Mediterranean beers (from countries including Greece, Lebanon, and Italy) and regional wines. The dining room is described as seating 100 (reduced to 25 under pandemic restrictions), featuring antique Middle Eastern chandeliers carried over from Kan Zaman, an earthy palette with warm wood and white brick, a 15-seat white quartz bar, modern art and neons, and a chef’s table for six with traditional pillow seating where Chef Younan will offer customized menus; Elias Younan says he hopes to open Medi on or around July 22." - Naomi Waxman
