"Inside the block-long collection of former Nabisco factory buildings, I found Chelsea Market has responded better to pandemic dining than most other food courts: traffic is limited to an east‑to‑west flow overseen by red‑shirted docents who prevent people from moving against the flow, advise on what’s open, and enforce social distancing and mask wearing (I counted about 10 staffers on my most recent visit). The operators have provided ample outdoor seating along 15th and 16th streets in 60 heated, isolated niches — round and picnic tables each in their own pod — which make dining a joy even as the metal footbridge and red‑glowing heaters give the experience a slightly surreal feel; on weekdays and weeknights it’s easy to snag a table, while weekends are busier, so I go early or late." - Robert Sietsema
