"Opening on Earth Day, April 22, I learned that Top Chef alum Spike Mendelsohn is bringing his vegan PLNT Burger food stall to the Whole Foods Market at 348 Harrison Avenue in the South End’s Ink Block. The short menu stars Beyond Meat burgers, Gardein chick’n sandwiches, and oat milk–based shakes and soft serve; the cheeseburger pairs a Beyond Meat patty with tomato, lettuce, pickles, caramelized onion, melted vegan cheese, and the brand’s signature sauce (a creamy combo of ketchup, relish, and molasses) on a toasted potato bun, while the crispy Chick ’N Sandwich features a “chik’n” patty fried in sunflower seed oil, tossed in a spice blend, and served with pickles and garden herb sauce on a potato bun. Iconic fast-food sides like “Bloomie Petals” and wavy sweet potato fries get the vegan makeover, and shakes and soft serve are made with oat milk. Founded by Mendelsohn with Seth Goldman in 2019 and now on its 11th outpost, PLNT Burger will partner with Lovin’ Spoonfuls Boston—donating one Lovin’ Spoonfuls meal for every PLNTY Meal sold—and will offer dine-in, takeout, and delivery via its website/app as well as DoorDash, Grubhub, and UberEats." - Stephanie Carter
