"At the Park Cities grill and bar, a Black TikToker visiting from New York says he and his party were refused seating after an employee told him his outfit violated the restaurant’s dress code — specifically calling a vintage Calvin Klein sleeveless denim vest “cutoffs” — even though the corporate policy only lists items like hats, tank tops, flip-flops and team athletic attire as too casual. He says he was wearing a half-zip sweater under the vest, multi-colored slacks, and driving loafers; after being told he couldn’t be seated he left to get a drink elsewhere and posted the interaction on TikTok, accusing the policy of being racist and selectively enforced. He also noted other patrons in visibly more casual attire (dirty golf shirts, a trucker hat and a tube top) were not challenged. The local location offered no comment and the restaurant group had not responded to media inquiries after 24 hours; observers point out that vague, inconsistently applied dress codes have been used to exclude Black customers from predominantly white establishments." - Courtney E.
