"Opening September 18 in downtown Austin, this Prohibition-inspired lounge and cocktail bar from jazz-scene vets Kris Kimura and Aaron Frescas aims to conjure the spirit of the Jazz Age with throwback décor, live music in the vein of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, and a stronger focus on cocktails than Parker Jazz Club and the Elephant Room. Located right next to Parker, it’s a 100-seat venue with moody Edison bulb lighting, black leather seating, and wood tables, with subtle nods to its namesake, Baroness Pannonica de Koenigswarter, from cat-themed wallpaper to a moth emblem woven into the logo. The cocktail list features the Toronto (a rye-based old fashioned with amaro), the Coronation No. 2 (a cognac cocktail with crème de menthe, citrus, and peach bitters), the Hanky Panky (a sweet martini known for its punch of Fernet-Branca), and the “Martini” Martin (a strong drink made with aged cognac, wine, and an absinthe rinse), plus wine, beer, and nonalcoholic options. According to the founders, the goal is a space where live jazz, good cocktails, and great service carry equal weight, with hours Tuesday through Saturday after opening." - H. Drew Blackburn
