"A longtime semi-hidden bungalow restaurant in Hollywood’s Media District, opened in 2001 by Denise DeCarlo and Betty Fraser (the “Grub Gals”) as an offshoot of their catering company, operated out of a funky former home and served gourmet California comfort food. Its menu featured classics like tomato soup, big-plate scrambles and croissant French toast, along with the popular “crack bacon.” Facing rising operating costs, increased competition, and timing pressures, the owners chose to close the restaurant with final service on Sunday, March 1 so they could focus solely on their catering business. The pair said they were proud to have held true to their convictions about their food and the idea that dining can be fun; the closure comes as the Media District shifts from a studio-filled, sleepy area to one seeing more retail and apartments, reshaping the neighborhood dining scene." - Mona Holmes
