"Verandah Progressive Indian Restaurant, a new eatery from the minds behind now-shuttered West Houston eatery Great W’Kana Cafe, is set to open its doors in Upper Kirby next week. The restaurant from chef Sunil Srivastava and his wife Anupama is set to debut at 3300 Kirby Drive on February 11, bringing a menu of modern Indian fare to the neighborhood. The space the restaurant occupies was designed to mimic the elements, with a design that’s inspired by the “essence of water,” and high ceilings in the dining room that are intended to “evoke a feeling of open air and sky,” according to a press release. The space will also boast its own private dining room, and a glassed-off wall that provides diners a view into the kitchen. As far as the food is concerned, diners can look forward to a bounty of kebabs that ranges from roasted plantain kebabs to potli kebabs, which involves cooking meat “inside out” by filling it with hot charcoal. Vegetarian options will also be on offer, many of which will be made with vegetables grown in the Srivastavas’s own home garden. Verandah is set to make its debut on February 11. The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner service from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week." - Amy McCarthy
