"A standout beachside restaurant from Los Angeles is expanding south to San Diego, and I’m looking forward to its bayfront perch at Seaport Village on the Embarcadero opening by the end of August. Malibu Farm, which Swedish-born chef Helene Henderson and her husband, actor-director John Stockwell opened a decade ago on the Malibu pier, is replacing the 40-year-old Harbor House after a multi-million-dollar renovation tied to the Port of San Diego’s Seaport Village transformation. The 14,000-square-foot venue will seat about 400 guests, with an upper-level main dining room and a lower level mostly for events and private dining, plus an ice cream shop, espresso bar and a retail shop selling curated home goods and pantry items. Designed by Bells + Whistles, the space will convey Malibu Farm’s relaxed SoCal style through modern farmhouse influences and Scandinavian minimalism—wood, tiles, textiles and abundant natural light from its Embarcadero-facing position. The Seaport Village outpost will run an all-day menu that hews closest to its Newport Beach spot—daily brunch and dinner with bowls, salads, sandwiches and mains like vegan coconut curry, fish tacos, lobster mac and cheese and a roasted chicken with whole-grain mustard sauce—alongside new San Diego–specific dishes using local farmers and purveyors, including seafood from the nearby Tuna Harbor Dockside Market, and a selection of thin-crust pies from the founders’ modern pizzeria, Skål Pizza." - Candice Woo
