How Movie Theaters Became Restaurants | Eater

"A Williamsburg dine-in cinema opened in 2011 that blends first-run and retro programming and was the first motion-picture theater in New York State to secure a liquor license after its owner successfully lobbied to overturn an old ban. The operation runs a full kitchen with no microwaves or reheated nachos, aiming to elevate the food experience with made-to-order dishes and a dedicated cocktail program; menu development prioritizes items that can be produced quickly at peak showtime, eaten in the dark, and are low-noise (soup is explicitly avoided because of spoon clanking and slurping). Popcorn remains the top seller by a wide margin, but lighter, shareable plates and cocktails perform especially well during fun, group-oriented films, and staff are attentive to audience mood (sometimes delaying clearing so patrons can digest emotionally heavy films)." - Martha Daniel
