"Customers at Detroit area White Castles can now order a meatless Impossible Burger. The steamed slider chain added the patties to menus nationwide today — expanding beyond its prior test at locations in New York, New Jersey, and Chicago earlier this year. Impossible Burgers and their competitor the Beyond Burger have been popping up on menus around town for quite some time now, but the release from the major chain is a significant step. Impossible Burgers are designed to mimic the flavor and texture of meat; they are made predominantly from wheat protein and potato. A plant-derived compound called heme that’s also found in beef gives the burgers their “bleeding” quality. As for the White Castle burger, Eater critic Ryan Sutton called it “one of the country’s best fast-food burgers, period.”" - Brenna Houck
