"A household name in Taiwan where it was established almost 40 years ago, Sunmerry Bakery has finally opened its first branch in San Diego. The new storefront operates daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. across from Panda Express in the Village at Mira Mesa shopping center. The bakery and cafe chain, which started its U.S. expansion in 2015 and now runs stores in California and New Jersey, is known for its vast selection of bread, pastries, and desserts that include Japanese and Tawainese specialties like pineapple cakes and bolo buns flavored with barbecue pork or Nutella, as well as egg tarts, Hokkaido cream cakes, caramel pudding, and brioche doughnuts filled with black sesame custard. It also whips up special occasion cakes, such as matcha tiramisu, Japanese cheesecake, and mango mousse cake. For a limited time, the Mira Mesa location is offering 10 percent off all purchases, including drinks for a menu that ranges from boba Thai iced tea and salted cream milk tea to matcha lattes, taro smoothies, and strawberry milk." - Candice Woo
