"Opening Wednesday, February 17 in the historic Skelton-Teasley House on Roswell Street in downtown Alpharetta, I learned the Ginger Room, owned by Angela Avery and Dr. Karl Walbrook, aims to blend the digestive and anti-inflammatory healing properties of ginger with the sophistication of a British high tea experience. The setting pairs local artwork, crystal chandeliers, British Crown scones and antiques dating from the 1800s across a parlor, a patio and a room named for Walbrook, who hails from central London. The menu features over 30 tea blends—including chai, ginger peach cobbler, chamomile and bee pollen, and Earl Grey creme—alongside coffee drinks, cold brews and Ginger Yum juices; tea towers for high tea include macarons, petit fours, Belgian truffles, an assortment of finger sandwiches and scones, and classic Bakewell tarts baked by Walbrook himself. A small retail section sells the shop’s tea blends, local honey, chocolates and toffees, and fascinators made by a local artist. Reservations for high tea are required; hours are Mon–Tue–Wed 7 a.m.–3 p.m., Thu–Fri 7 a.m.–7 p.m., and Sat–Sun 11 a.m.–7 p.m.; masks are highly encouraged, seating is limited during the pandemic, and online ordering is forthcoming." - Beth McKibben
